Local representation requirements for digital businesses in Indonesia
Trade barrier summary
This affects UK digital companies doing business in Indonesia. Ministry of Trade regulation No. 50/2020 introduces new requirements for PPMSEs (business licensing, advertising, coaching, and supervision of business actors in trading through electronic systems), including:
- overseas and domestic PPMSEs must submit data and/or information to the government
- if a PPMSE has processed more than 1,000 transactions and sent more than 1,000 packages to consumers in a 1 year period, a representative based in the jurisdiction of Indonesia must be appointed (using the same name)
The regulation will be effective from 13 November 2020.
