Local presence requirements in Indonesia affecting UK exporters/investor
Trade barrier summary
Based on Min Trade Reg No.11/2006, foreign companies are required to have a local presence or a local distributor in Indonesia to sell their goods directly to domestic retailers. Under this regulation there are four primary methods of meeting local presence requirements: appoint a local agent or distributor, open a representative office, open a branch, or set up an Indonesian Limited Liability Company (PMA).
On the distribution side, foreign companies are also not allowed to act as direct distributors. Therefore, foreign companies need to appoint reliable local distributors/agents.
In addition to this, digital companies meeting specific criteria, are also required to appoint a representative in Indonesia under the same name.
