Trademark infringement in Ukraine affecting UK exporters/investors
Trade barrier summary
The Customs Code of Ukraine regulates customs clearance of trademarked products. Trademark owners need to register their brands in the 'Trademark Register.' When trademarked products arrive at customs at the Ukrainian border, an officer verifies these, using the Trademark Register. However customs code amendments removed the requirement for a customs officer to verify shipments with the trademark owner, putting them at risk of parallel imports, and being unable to quality control the products under their trademark. A parallel import is a non-counterfeit product, imported from another country without the permission of the intellectual property owner.
