UK law firms not permitted to practise Chinese law in China

UK and other overseas law firms cannot obtain a licence to practise Chinese law in China. They are permitted to provide information about the impact of the Chinese legal environment but legal work involving Chinese law has to be undertaken by a Chinese law firm. Chinese lawyers joining overseas law firms must suspend their Chinese licence.
