Net metering installation restrictions in Zimbabwe reduce viability of UK solar energy investment
Trade barrier summary
Zimbabwe has passed legislation allowing net metering. This is a billing mechanism that credits energy added to the grid. Energy is usually added by solar energy system owners.
The state-owned Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) restricts installation work to its own electricians. No other electricians have the authority to install meters. Establishing net metering can be slow and challenging. This reduces the viability of business and residential solar investment by UK firms.
