Market access barriers arising from the Fly America Act (1974)
Trade barrier summary
This affects exporters of air carrier services for all air travel and cargo services to the United States. The Fly America Act (1974) mandates that federally-funded international travel is required to use United States air carrier services.
There are some very limited exemptions including situations where service on a foreign air carrier would be 3 hours or less than use of the United States flag air carrier and using a United States carrier would at least double travel time. Foreign air carrier service may not be used solely based on cost or convenience.
This reduces market access for UK exporters of air carrier services to the United States.
