Parallel imports negatively affect the UK pharmaceutical businesses' profits, and can put consumer's health at risk in the market. This is largely because some pharmaceuticals require special handling, storage and labelling, the absence of which can change the make-up of the pharmaceutical product, or reduce its effectiveness. Trinidad and Tobago laws state that once a product is registered in the local market, it can be imported and sold by anyone. This increases the number of unauthorised distributors selling a product, possibly at a cheaper price.
