Vehicle standards in Thailand affecting UK exporters
Trade barrier summary
Thailand's national vehicles standards may be burdensome to overseas vehicle manufacturers. Issues include:
- UN certified glass products are not accepted, requiring importers to retest their glass products
- certain kinds of labels that may force manufacturers to change the materials of their tyres
The certification process of these components can be time-consuming, because it requires Thai and/or Thai-witnessed testing in overseas facilities.
Additionally, the conformity assessment for vehicle-type approval is done with an approval process by the Thai Department of Land Transport. This process can be lengthy and inconsistent. Production components and spare parts are tested before and after being assembled into a vehicle, and vehicles are tested again when they are complete.
