UK defence exporters limited by the Canadian Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) policy
Trade barrier summary
Under Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy, including the Value Proposition, companies bidding for defence procurement contracts are expected to commit to undertake business activities and invest in economic activities (including R&D, employment of Canadians, use of Canadian suppliers and skills development programs) in Canada equal to the value of the contract.
The ITB Policy applies to all major defence procurement contracts over $100 million. Defence procurement contracts with a value of between $20 and $100 million are also reviewed for the application of the policy.
The Value Proposition, an economic proposal to Canada, is a weighted and rated element of the bid selection process and is scored alongside technical and cost requirements.
