New rules affect UK tyre exports to Thailand
Trade barrier summary
This affects UK tyre exports to Thailand. The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) passed 2 royal decrees that came into effect in January 2019, aimed at streamlining the quality and standard of tyres. It affects both home-produced and imported tyres.
One of the rules specifies that all tyres need to have certain stamps to meet the requirements for export or resale in the country. In addition, all tyres need to be tested. UK tyres are tested to International standards which are not accepted by the Thai authorities. UK businesses are therefore required to test these tires again to the Thai standards which increases costs to UK businesses.
