Regulatory inconsistencies delay UK film and TV production companies
Trade barrier summary
DIT and UK companies resolved issues during meetings with Malaysian officials in April 2019, regarding the delays UK film and TV companies had faced when filming in Malaysia.
Problems included non-payment of the 'Film in Malaysia' Incentive. This was despite full compliance with the relevant terms and conditions. Other issues included delays in script approvals, arbitrary conditions on film locations and denial of permissions. Companies as a result incurred extra and often significant costs.
