Local authority health certificates for food and drink exports rejected at port in Kuwait

in Kuwait

Trade barrier summary

Following in-person engagement and written correspondence with Kuwait’s Public Authority for Food and Nutrition and the Head of Shuwaikh Port, we’ve received confirmation that council health certificates will now be sufficient for accompanying relevant consignments – such as low-risk food and drink products.

Companies should still work with local authority to ensure health certificates state that the product is ‘fit for human consumption’, and include:

• text which provides evidence of compliance of the shipment with the import requirements of the state of Kuwait - to ensure that the food exported is safe
• the date of issue and the container number (if possible)
• confirmation the certificate has been issued and approved by a competent authority
• a description of the product and confirmation of quantities, including number of packages and total weight

You should also include valid dates – in particular, that the health certificate is dated before the bill of landing.
