Restrictions on UK law firms operating in India
Trade barrier summary
At the time of writing, foreign law firms are not permitted to establish a presence in India under the Advocates Act 1961. According to the 2018 Indian Supreme Court decision foreign qualified lawyers may only provide fly-in-fly-out services in foreign and international law on a 'casual basis'. Foreign lawyers may not provide services in respect of anything that touches on Indian Law. Those considering practising should, therefore, check beforehand.
