For some 87% of a businesses product lines for goods - for all industry sectors - exported to Argentina, import licences are granted automatically. Non-automatic licences were introduced to control imports and the amount of currency leaving the economy. In the last year, the Argentine government has increased the number of products that require non-automatic approval. The criteria for granting the licences is not transparent, and decisions can be delayed beyond the time limit stipulated in the WTO Agreement on Import Licensing Procedures of 60 days.
