Sampling and testing alcohol before and during exports in Mongolia
Trade barrier summary
New alcohol brands need a permit to export to Mongolia. For a permit to be issued, a sample needs to be provided to the General Agency for Specialised Inspection, for sanitary and technical purposes. The alcohol import tariff - Harmonised System (HS) code: 22 -is 25%.
This requirement is underpinned by article 8.2 of the 2016 law on sanitation, amended in 2018, for which Article 3.1.1.1 requires sanitary confirmation through sampling and testing exports and imports that are considered high-risk to human health.
In addition, Article 3.1.2.1 stipulates that if goods are found unsealed or damaged during physical inspection at the border, or if transportation procedure was breached, then a sample of the goods will be taken for inspection to a certified laboratory for testing.
